Nobee Kanayama and Carole Gray-Weihman are the featured artists at the Pelican Art Gallery through July 2nd, 2011. We’re happy to have Nobee as the newest edition to the gallery as he brings his own unique look. Nobee’s paintings come from his heart as he conveys the feeling of happiness through intimate views of his subjects. He paints mostly from memory after making simple sketches which are more about feelings and colors then of being a slave to his subject. He goes for the essence of his subject; not just portraying its physical qualities. Nobee’s painting assert the feeling of happiness and well being through color and texture.

Japanese born artist Nobee Kanayama came to the United States in 1977 at the age of 29 after working as a graphic designer in Tokyo. He first came to San Francisco and attended the Academy of Art where he studied for about 2 years. He then continued his advanced training at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he studied with Dan McCaw and John Asaro and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts. Dan had a profound affect on Nobee; instilling in him what it is to be an artist.

“Nobee’s art exemplifies the essence of a sensitive spirit that captures emotions far beyond that which the subject presents. His is an expression of truth that only could be painted by an artist with a pure heart. He is truly an undiscovered treasure and someone I am pleased to be able to call my friend.”
Dan McCaw

We currently represent 11 Masters of Today. I will be introducing you to our Resident Artists through this blog. I hope you enjoy the posts and feel a bit more connected to our commitment to the arts.

Alexander P. Sachal, simply known as Sachal, has an amazing story. Here is a small introduction to this Russian born Master Artist: ” At 16 years old, I joined the Fine Arts School, Sculpture School, Sculpture Workshop. We were working for 4 hours in the shop, learning how to make sculpture. The next 4 hours were academic: learning architecture, decoration, stone carving, clay, hot wax process for bronze sculpture. In June 1941 school was closed and converted to a war factory to manufacture military hardware. So, I volunteered to the army so I could defend my country.” – Sachal

"Double Portrait" by Sachal, Oil on Canvas 52" x 42"

Sachal has a magical style of painting that stands up to the best of history’s master artists. Photos just cannot capture the depth of color and sense of emotion. The “Double Portrait” (oil on canvas, 52″ x 42″) painting currently hanging in the group show at the Gallery demonstrates Sachal’s ability to capture emotion. When he first showed us this painting he simply said that it showed human tenderness. Sachal has a vivacious love for life and dedication to painting. We are honored to represent his work and hope that you stop by to see this painting in particular of Sachal’s. Learn more about Sachal here.Икони
