Award winning fine art gallery with award winning artistsFine Art from the Masters of Today
Posted on April 03, 2010I find it hard to believe that we’re already in April and the kickoff exhibition of the Pelican Art Gallery Masters of Today is in its final day! It has been a wonderful start to our representation of 11 incredible artists.
On Monday, April 5th, I’ll be hanging the next show which will feature Alfredo Tofanelli and Stanley Mouse.
Please join us for the Artist Reception
Saturday, April 10th from 4 – 7pm
Alfredo received his Fine Arts degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He served on the faculty of Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles, teaching courses in life drawing, painting and computer graphics. He currently teaches head & figure painting at the Atelier aux Couleurs: the Art Academy in Petaluma. His famous posters have been in shows at The Smithsonian Institute, the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Boston Museum, the Art Museum of San Francisco, the Oakland Museum , the Tate in London and the Louvre Museum in Paris are a few of the premier museums to have featured Stanley’s artwork.
Best in Sonoma County
Posted on March 21, 2010We certainly love what we do! I’m very proud to announce that Pelican Art Gallery was voted Best Framer and one of the Best Galleries in Sonoma County. We want to thank those who took the time to vote in the Bohemian’s survey this year. It reminds us how much our success is tied to our service, quality and communications. So Thank YOU!
Yesterday, we had a successful event at the Gallery benefiting the AIDS Life Cycle Ride and the Pelican Art Foundation. Our thanks to the hard work of all the volunteers to present such a fun and successful event.
Linda Gonzalez Memorial Youth Art Walk
Posted on March 11, 2010I was at the Gallery until near midnight last night finalizing the list of student art. Yesterday the local high school teachers brought in a couple hundred pieces of art from their current students. All the gallery owners and downtown merchants participating in this Saturday’s Art Walk were blown away by the quality of work.
You can see 4 examples at http://www.pelicanart.com/art/pelican-art-gallery-home/2010-youth-art-walk/. The teachers are to be commended due to their dedication to these students. Not only did they teach the classes, but they provided the artwork mounted, labeled and ready for hanging. This is not a simple task and I hope that parents and students thank the art teachers at our high schools for putting in such a tremendous effort!
Please make time to participate in the Linda Gonzalez Memorial Youth Art Walk this Saturday from 4 – 7pm and see the sea of student artists with their families. It’s really a fun experience to be around new artists who get a chance to participate in an exhibit of this caliber and size. It will be worth it!
Ray Roberts: A plein air Master
Posted on February 27, 2010It was when Ray Roberts signed with us as a Resident Artist that made us stop and reflect on the distance we had come with the Gallery. A member of the elite Plien Air Painters of America, Ray is one of California’s most respected Plein Air artists. He has a long list of awards including the Gold Medal for “Best Painting” at the California Art Club and the Artists’ Choice Award, the highest accolade from fellow artists, at three major Southwest art events.
Alfredo Tofanelli honored with Solo Show
Posted on February 24, 2010When we decided to dedicate the Gallery to a select group of artists, Alfredo Tofanelli was high on our list. Like all our Resident Artists, Alfredo is an award winning painter with a vast amount of experience.
Alfredo Tofanelli will be featured in the Napa Valley Museum’s exhibition, Plein Air & Other Works by Alfredo Tofanelli. The exhibition runs from March 5 – April 18. Winner of the 2009 Juried Plein Air exhibition, Tofanelli won the best of show award for Light Play, which captured the judges’ attention and entitled
him to the current one-person show. Opening is in the evening on Friday March 5th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the Napa Valley Museum. Congrats Al!
V-Day “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant & A Prayer” at Pelican Art Gallery
Posted on February 21, 2010We are very excited about this week’s performances of the V-Day “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant & A Prayer” at Pelican Art Gallery Friday & Saturday, February 26th & 27th. Trisha Almond, the amazing force behind the Petaluma V-Day involvement, has done a great job of orchestrating the 2 performances at the Gallery and the “Vagina Monologues” to be held at the Community Center on March 13th.
This year’s spotlight monologue, featured in V-Day Petaluma’s “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant & A Prayer” and “The Vagina Monologues” productions, will be coming from Eve Ensler’s February 9 book release, “I Am An Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World.”
You can find out more about the events at http://www.vdaypetaluma.org/.
Hope you join us in support of ending violence against women & girls.икони
Sachal: Master for the ages
Posted on February 19, 2010We currently represent 11 Masters of Today. I will be introducing you to our Resident Artists through this blog. I hope you enjoy the posts and feel a bit more connected to our commitment to the arts.
Alexander P. Sachal, simply known as Sachal, has an amazing story. Here is a small introduction to this Russian born Master Artist: ” At 16 years old, I joined the Fine Arts School, Sculpture School, Sculpture Workshop. We were working for 4 hours in the shop, learning how to make sculpture. The next 4 hours were academic: learning architecture, decoration, stone carving, clay, hot wax process for bronze sculpture. In June 1941 school was closed and converted to a war factory to manufacture military hardware. So, I volunteered to the army so I could defend my country.” – Sachal
Sachal has a magical style of painting that stands up to the best of history’s master artists. Photos just cannot capture the depth of color and sense of emotion. The “Double Portrait” (oil on canvas, 52″ x 42″) painting currently hanging in the group show at the Gallery demonstrates Sachal’s ability to capture emotion. When he first showed us this painting he simply said that it showed human tenderness. Sachal has a vivacious love for life and dedication to painting. We are honored to represent his work and hope that you stop by to see this painting in particular of Sachal’s. Learn more about Sachal here.Икони
Susan Adams branches out
Posted on February 17, 2010Susan Adams is an award winning watercolorist. Her love for color and drive to capture light in a way that draws us into the paintings combine to make her a phenomenal artist. In her more recent works, she is incorporating gouache with the watercolors. We have 3 paintings in the Gallery that use the new techniques. Check out the “Red Purse”, “Lunchtime” & “Waiting” on her paintings page.
We’re thrilled that Susan has joined our Resident Artist Program and look forward to bringing you more of her work throughout the next year.
Susan teaches painting workshops and weekly sessions from her studio in Petaluma. She will be taking a group of student artists to France with her this summer. You can learn more about this trip by clicking here.
Stanley Mouse Poster Helps Micky Hart with Haiti fundraiser
Posted on February 16, 2010We’re very glad Stanley Mouse has joined us for the Resident Artist Program here at Pelican Art Gallery.
Stanley Mouse created this poster to assist Grateful Dead drummer Micky Hart with his fundraiser on 2/13/2010 called Heartbeat for Haiti. At the Gallery the same night we raised $150 towards the cause.
As part of our current group show of our Masters of Today, Stanley provided the original painting that inspired the poster. You can stop by the Gallery to see both the original painting and the signed poster. It’s really amazing how much artwork Stanley donates to this type of fundraising. We’re proud to represent such a wonderful artist.
